Mükerrem Kaya is a Professor at Food Engineering Department, Atatürk University, Turkey. He worked as a guest scientist at Federal Meat Research Institute in Kulmbach, Germany between 1988 and 1990. He was a visiting scientist in the same institute in 1998. He worked as researcher or project manager in many national and international projects. He held various administrative and academic posts in Atatürk University. He has over 100 articles published in journals indexed by SCI and SCI-Expanded and over 150 communiqués presented in national and international scientific gatherings. He advised over many doctoral and masters theses in the areas of meat science and technology and meat microbiology. He is currently continuing his studies as member of Department of Food Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, Atatürk University. He has also been the president of Advisory Commission on Meat Products of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Republic of Turkey since 2017.
